2 FRATERNITY DEZSŐ SZABÓ: THE MEANING OF LIFE Men of all faith, come gather around me. A man speaks to you whose harvest grew out of deep roots of suffering and lasting joy, the life of all men and all things, casts his ripe grain before you. 0 ephemeral men, born of and living in passion and pain, and vanishing like bubbles into eternal nothingness, hear the words of Everlasting Life. Lo, after a thousand bankruptcies and thousands of defeats, I resume my predestined duel with Death in order to show Life which the graveyard does not swallow. I speak about Life which remains. Death comes when men are like billiard balls who don’t have a will of their own but let themselves be pushed around by the billiard cues of interests, events and men of prey. Por men! They don’t live themselves but are pawns in the life of others. Death comes when men are looking for their treasure in other men’s purse. Every man, even the simplest and poorest, is born with a closed treasure chest of his own. He must break it open and lift it, and change into life the treasures hidden within himself. Yet most people are unaware that they are rich, that they possess treasures. They want to find their own life in other men’s lives, words, opportunities and ideas. And they take their own riches into dark graves completely unaware of their own treasure. 0, what an immense waste is all cemetery!? Death comes when man runs so fast to live that he has no time to live. He does not take time to ascend to the highest point of himself and view his complete realm, his whole fertile estate. Therefore, most men cultivate but a little part and the poorest soil and the most perishable part of their possessions during their life. They are like the fool who inherited hundreds of thousands of rich acres, yet every year he ploughs but a few, the poorest and always the same ones. Therefore, he remains a beggar in the midst of riches on the outskirts of his own realm. He is like a piano which has hundreds of keys on which the fullness of life could be brought into harmony. But he allows Life pushing down mechanically just one key, always the same one. Men, men, I proclaim the great Revolution of Man: discover the completeness of yourself, break open your own treasury, live
