12 FRATERNITY FACTS ABOUT ELMHURST COLLEGE Background Founded in 1871. — Co-educational and enrollment limited to 850. Elmhurst is fully accredited and has won an excellent scholastic repu­tation among the nation’s top liberal arts colleges. The ratio of faculty to students is one professor to every twelve students. For almost a century Elmhurst College has been preparing students for useful, worthwhile living. Among Elmhurst alumni are many Ameri­can leaders in professions, business, education, science, the arts and the home. Elmhurst College is located in Elmhurst, Illinois, a beautiful resi­dential suburb of Chicago. The campus is located only sixteen miles west of the Chicago “Loop” district. The campus comprises thirty-four acres of land. The population of Elmhurst is about 30,000. The residents enjoy not only the advantages of life in a small city, but also the advantages of easy access to Chicago, its schools, its concerts, its churches, and in general, its cultural institutions and movements. Frequent visits are made to courts, clinics, museums and other institutions which offer practical illustrations of the principles taught in classes. Two years of general education in six major divisions: languages and literature, natural sciences, social sciences, fine arts, philosophy and religion, and physical education. Specialization in the following major fieds: biology, business administration, chemistry, Christian education, economics, elementary education, English, French, German, history, mathematics, music, philosophy, physics, political science, psychology, religion, sociology, Spanish, speech. Minors are offered in all the aforementioned plus: art, geography, Greek, Hungarian and physical education. Degrees Offered Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science.
