I Minding Our Own Business j 1 * KySSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS&SSSMSSSSSS^S^^SWSjf^SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSStfifSSSS THE DISTRICT CONFERENCE held at Carteret, N. J., was a delightful affair in every respect. It was planned to assemble our coworkers of this populous and very active district— old hands and young people alike. The secretary and myself represented the Home Office, and both of us were much pleased with the serious and business-like manner in which the conference was conducted. The questions and discussions have shown that our co-workers in the field are anxious to learn all the details of their work and that it is their ambition to give the best possible service to the members of their branches. The conference was followed by a splendid supper, for which the ladies of the Carteret congregation deserve our thanks. ★ ★ ★ WE SENT OUT the interest slips of the certificate loans, for the first time in duplicates. The Ohio district conference requested that we send out three slips, each in a different color, which would be handed over to the members by the branch secretary at different times as reminders. We talked over this idea at the Home Office and decided that two slips will be enough. We have found that making out two slips in duplicate involves some extra work, but preparing three slips would be impractical and unnecessary. Experience will show whether this duplicate business is practical or not. ★ ★ ★ NEVER IN THE 57-YEAR HISTORY of our Federation had we experienced a more horrible case than the murder of our young members at Branch 74 in Muskegon, Mich. Mrs. Andrew Kuntz (Ethel Eszenyi), a lovely 22-year-old mother and her husband were the victims of an insane maniac, whom they befriended, and who murdered them without any reason at all. There was no robbery or any other motive connected with the horrible deed. The murderer, a 25-year-old man, who a few years ago escaped from a mental institution, was a welcome guest at the home of the young couple many times to view television. On the evening of the murder he approached the Kuntz home at the time the couple was about to retire, broke a window, and climbing into the house, shot to death the husband with a gun. After the shot, the young wife rushed down the steps, and fighting the mad-man, she succeeded in taking the gun away from him, but the intruder attacked her with a knife, stabbing her 48 times. After the horrible deed, the murderer went back to the neighboring farm of his sister, where he lived, and told everything to them. “I didn’t have anything against Andy and his wife, and don’t know why I killed them.” The couple left an eight-month- old baby girl. The murdered young mother as a child attended the Sundy School of our East Chicago, Ind., congregation. ★ ★ ★ RAISE YOUR INSURANCE! This should be one of the most important slogans in every family. You must get away from that old established idea which prevailed 40-50 years ago, that $1,000 is enough. You know real well that with this amount you don’t insure anyone, except the expenses of your funeral. The main idea behind every insurance plan is PROTECTION—protection for your wife, your children, your mortgaged home. Get in touch with the secretary of your branch and increase your insurance before it is too late. ★ ★ ★ WE EXPRESS our heartfelt thanks to the Rev. Dr. Alexander Tóth, Editor of the “Reformátusok Lapja”, for the friendly lines he wrote in the latest issue of his publication about our Federation’s progress. Dr. Tóth, who spent so many years in one of the most responsible positions of our Federation, is better equipped than anyone else to pass judgment on our affairs. The words of appreciation, coming from such an expert, will serve only to spur our responsible leaders to more satisfying achievements. ★ ★ ★ OUR MODERN LIFE is becoming a more and more dangerous life as well. Accident insurance never was a luxury, but in these days it is an absolute necessity. It costs only pennies a month—and what man of common sense can afford to neglect it? Ask your local secretary about the rate for your occupation, and sleep better when you receive our certificate showing that you have this type of protection also. Edmund Vasvary.
