Apart from his county and national official career, György Bartal (1785-1865) conducted outstanding academic work in the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. Still, his greatest accomplishment is the obtained high social standing of the Bartal family. The Latin-Hungarian word list, which was compiled with great expertise, helps to understand the difficult legal language of the text. This writing describes the first half of the 19th century, a less known period from the Hungarian Catholic Church's history. The essay's value is further increased by the fact that Szekszárd's modern church history was slightly overshadowed by the exemption which lasted until the 1770s. The author adopted earlier ecclesiastical sources for the description of the parish and abbey history. The visitation record is valuable not only for the contained data, but also for its historic narrative and reflections on spiritual life, thus providing a detailed illustration of the developing town's society and church life. Due to the author's knowledge of modern (ecclesiastical) Latin, the added translations are very detailed and subtle. The bilingual interpretation not only helps readers to understand the text better, but also aids historic experts studying the special terminology of 18th- 19th century church language.
