Our First Day Covers not only will be. fascin­ating collectors items, but we are proudly presenting to our Heritage. . . . Our First Day Covers combine art and history in our Nation in a tribute to our American heritage. Kossuth, Eucharistic Congress in Philadelphia, Colonel Commandant Kovats, Cardinal Mindszenty visit in U.S.A., and in Canada . . . such are the subjects chosen for our na­tional honor. Never will be accept­ed trivial, unimportant or dull de­sign, what is not dedicate our 1500 year national and 1000 year Chris­tian history. The best time to obtain these prized collectors items is when they are issued. Some of our Covers will be available only in very limited number, and so the coming "Kovats — founding father of the U.S. Ca­valry — (6-6 envelope) will be issu­ed on May 11th in Charleston, S.C., with special cancellation. Our Hungarian Heritage Postal Commemorative Society will call our leading artists and designers here and abroad to help create the best design for the subject chosen. Such commission naturally high prized and bring the best efforts of the artist involved. Covers to be sent to you without any charge will be handled by the Society.) 2 OCTOBER 30, 1776: WASHINGTON BY ACT OF CONTINENTAL CONGRESS THE ESTABLISHES THE US. CAVALRY CAVALLERY as fighting unit was a neglegted from the beginning days of the Revolution, for different reason. Generaly speaking there was little opportunity for the proper use of cavalry among the mountains and the heavily wooded terrain of New England, where much of the early fighting in the war took place; \ Revolution started by the colopist, and not by the rich— but the very poor, and they can't afforded the great expensis involved. Finally the 13 colonies have no raised, educated and experienced leaders in cavalry warfare. Polish revolutionary leader Count Pulaski already arrived, but with in 28 young years the has not the experience to make a good fighting unit, till Kovats, allready a great. experienced and known cavalry expert under Frederick the Great, commander of the Free Hussars of Gersdorf — arrived trough New- York harbour in this Continent. After this fact the history speaking self, till Charleston, S. C., where this great leader sacrifized her own life, for the caute of freedom. His cavalry would help save the Con­tinental Army from destruction at Brandywine, Trenton, Princeton and writed in many occasion the first and glorious chapter of the U. S. Cavalry. We offering the day of the "Batt­le of Charleston May, 11th cancella­tion the following First Day Covers. No. 1. Hungarian Hussars Aid to Camp to Empress Maria Teresia of Austria. 1756. Armed conflict between the Prussian and Aust­rian dynasts, called by some hist­orians the "Hussar War” because both sides used well trained fighting units of light cavalry. These units exercised a decisive influance upon the outcome of several battles and even upon the fate of the war itself. Participated in the famous raid. No. 2. Colonel of the Hussars in the Jász-Cumanian Regiments, Mi­chael Kovats became a hussar with this regiment in 1744 and rais the rank of commander of the Free Hussars of Gersdor. No. 3. Officers famous "noble” Mi­chael Székely, Prussian First Hus­sar Regiment Frederick the Great, a man of vision, recognized the virtues of the Hungarian Hussars opposing him in the Silesian Wars and tried to lure many of them to his side. Between 1750-58 the commander of the First Prussian Hussar Regiments was "noble” Székely, and besides Kováts there were several Hungarian officers serving in its units. No. 4. Officers of the Hussaren Re­giment von ZIETEN It should be recalld that the train­ing masters of the Prussian Ca­valry were also Hungarians. In order to learn the Hungarian Hus­sar tactics he sent Hans Yoachim Zieten, his Hussar captain, and the founder of the Prussian Ca­valry, as an observer to the Rhine camping. Here Ziethen formed a close friendship with great hus­­sarleader Baranyay,who taught sar tactics, Zieten with another him all the tricks of Hungarian Hussar tactics, Zieten with another ed and decided the fate of the battle of GOTHA, Sept. 17, 1757. This battle described in the histo­ry of the First Prussian Hussar Regiments as follows: His Majes­ty (Frederick the Great) was completely satisfied with the be­havior of the regiment and award­ed the Pour le Merite order to all senior officers. At this occasion . . . Kováts and several others were severely wounded.” (All the historical date served by the book Faithful unto Death. Published by the Bethlen Press, Ligonier, Pa., by László Eszenyi.) No. 5. A unit of the regiment of the Hussars Bercsényi. 1760-1768. Count Bercsényi, later Marechal of France was the son of great re­volutionary leader under Prinz Rákóczi against the Austrian op­pressors of Hungary. No. 6. Attacking hussars from the Eszterhzy regiment in French Ar­my. Bercsényi, Eszterházy founded the first french hussaren regi­ments and sended also units with Rochambo, Duc de Lausone to this Continent. The famous picture Cornwalles surrender bring this fighting units nearer to us. II. No. 1. We bring copy of the letter with a hussaren sword in the middle departing ship to the Co­lonies from Bordaux commemo­rate the letter written to Benja­min Franklin, that time Ambas­sador by the French Royal Court. No. 2. Colonel Kováts in company of Count Montfort and Count Pu­laski. No. 3. Washington directs order ta Colonel Kováts to protect the Southern flank of the Continental Army. Kováts wife Szinyai-Marse one of the most important family in Saras, North Hungary, was di­rect neighbor the Pulaski family. Tatárjárás, törökdúlás, Habsburg rabság, világháborúk vé­res orkánjai nem tudnak bennünket elpusztítani, "megfogyva bár, de törve nem" él nemzetünk. Élteti a magyar igazság győzelmébe vetett hitünk. Hitünket, önmagunkba vetett bi­zalmunkat megerősíti, hogy ma már tudjuk: nem vagyunk elkorcsosult népmaradékokból összeverődött gyökértelen, gyülevész népség, mint ahogy ezt ellenségeink évszázadokon át hirdették. Nagy és dicső múltúnk ismeretében, felébredt magyar ön­tudattal lépünk nemezti megújulá­sunk szent évébe. Rákóczi Fejedelmünk szellemében a márciusi ifjak lelkesedésével és a Magyar Október harcosainak bátor­ságával fogjuk a magyar igazság ügyét fáradhatatlanul szolgálni. Ügy, ahogy azt nemzetünk nagy fia, aki vértanúságot szenvedett hitéért, mondotta és hirdette: A nemzet szolgálatában meghalni lehet, de elfáradni soha!
