Kuhn F., Dobszai G.: Vitrectomy as the treatment of ghost-cell glaucoma

In case of intraocular haemorrhage which may occur mainly as a consequence of intracapsular cataract extraction red blood celles with changed characteristics find entrance from the vitreous into the anterior chamber. These ghost-cells are extremely rigid and may obliterate the intratrabecular spaces which result in secundary intraocular pressure elevation. The logical therapy of the clinical picture is vitrectomy which may hinder the occurence of a possible subsequent haemorrhage too and therefore the development of ghost-cells. A complete and rapid recovery could be achieved in a patient with the alteration by the authors.

Im Falle einer intraokulären Blutung können, vor allem nach einer vorangegangenen intrakapsulären Extraktion Erythrozyten mit geänderten Eigenschaften aus dem Glaskörper in die Kammer gelangen. Diese außerordentlich rigiden Geisterzellen können die Spalten des Trabekulärnetzes verstopfen und einen sekundären Augendruckanstieg verursachen. Die logische Therapie des Krankheitsbildes ist die Vitrektomie, durch die, die Entwicklung der Geisterzellen auch im Falle einer eventuellen späteren, erneuten Blutung verhindert wird. Im dargestellten Fall konnte eine rasche und definitive Heilung erzielt werden.
