VÉGJÁTÉK ÉS KEZDET 402 ENDGAME AND BEGINNING The Party Structure of the First National Assembly in the First Half of 1922 By Levente Püski SUMMARY Within the early Horthy Era, the first half of 1922 can be regarded as a key period. It was then that the party structure emerged which later exerted a decisive influence on the position of prime minister István Bethlen, and more generally on the gradual development of the government structure. Consequently, the paper focusses on the nature and the extent of the realignment that took place within the party structure of the national assembly in the period thus investigated. It first examines the members of the assembly from the perspective of their belonging to the various parties and political groups. The table attached to the text makes it possible to trace changes for every single person. The resulting view of the realignment within the party structure, based on the application of quantitative methods, offers the opportunity to assess the alternatives it opened up for prime minister István Bethlen.
