GYÁR ÉS FÖLDBIRTOK A NAGY HÁBORÚBAN ÉS AZ ÖSSZEOMLÁSBAN 1292 INDUSTRY AND LANDED PROPERTY IN THE GREAT WAR AND DURING THE COLLAPSE by Zsombor Bódy SUMMARY The mobilization of the economy, the maintaining of military production at a high level, and the management of the lack of manpower during World War I resulted in governmental intrusion into the economy and social life as had never been seen before. The government tried to solve the emerging problems through consultation with the representatives of the areas given – land owners and their associations, industrial employers, and trade unions. In the process, conflicts that had been of a purely market nature before the war gradually developed into political conflicts involving various interested parties. These the government ultimately failed to deal with successfully, either in agriculture or industry. The study explores the dynamics of the conflicts between employer associations and trade unions on the one hand, and between the various interest groups in the agricultural sphere on the other. These conflicts had degenerated into sharp opposition by 1918/19, and exerted a major social impact on the violent political turns of these years. After 1920, the new government finally managed to ease such conflicts (from its own perspective at least), in both agricultural society and the industrial world.
