AZ ERDÉLYI PÉNZÜGYIGAZGATÁS ÁTSZERVEZÉSÉRE TETT KÍSÉRLETEK 1598 ÉS 1604 KÖZÖTT 1120 ATTEMPTS AT THE REORGANISATION OF TRANSYLVANIAN FINANCIAL ADMINISTRATION BETWEEN 1598 AND 1604 by Petra Mátyás-Rausch SUMMARY The paper explores the structure of the offices of the Habsburg financial administration established in Transylvania during the Fifteen Years’ War, and through this the financial plans and reforms of the central government. It also seeks to clarify what the system of financial administration of the Transylvanian Principality looked like in the late 16th century, and what kind of people were in charge of leading it. In contrast to earlier scholarly assumptions, Transylvanian financial administration was not under the control of a treasurer. It is also clear now that a treasury office functioned alongside the Prince, headed by a prefect. The temporarily established organs of Habsburg financial administration were founded upon this prefecture, while the ultimate goal of the government was to establish a specialized Transylvanian financial bureau: the Transylvanian Chamber.
