A 18–19. SZÁZADI MAGYAR MINERALÓGUS-PEREGRINÁCIÓ 1062 THE CULTURAL-HISTORICAL RELEVANCE OF THE PEREGRINATION OF HUNGARIAN MINERALOGISTS IN THE 18TH AND 19TH CENTURIES by Dezső Gurka SUMMARY The new significance of mining in Habsburg economic policy brought into being numerous cultural phenomena in Hungary over the course of the 18th and 19th centuries. Since the Mining Academy of Selmecbánya was responsible for professional recruitment across the entire Danube Basin, the peregrination of Hungarian mineralogists was primarily directed to Jena (which was also the home of the Mineralogical Society), instead of Freiberg. Therefore, as a model, the milieu of Jena and also Göttingen came to support the connections between the mineralogical, (natural)philosophical and literary environment of Hungary.
