TANULMÁNYOK - Gergely András: A Batthyány-kormány időszaka a porosz diplomáciai jelentésekben III/575

602 GERGELY ANDRÁS the general incertainty of Prussian foreign policy (although the diplomatic personnel remained unchanged), another the unresolved problem of German unity (with the Prussian-Danish war of international consequences in its centre), and the third the regional dominance of Russian foreign policy, which left little room for the Prussians. Thanks to the reports the crisis and transformation of the Habsburg Empire as well as its attempts at consolidation were clearly perceived in Berlin. In the emerging constitutional conflict between Austria and Hungary they took sides with the countrer-revolutionary-centralising forces because of ideological rather than diplomatic considerations. The presentation of the sources covers the period of the Batthyány government in Hungary (March-October 1848), and ends with the outbreak of open war. In this period no foreign political conception concerning the future of Central Europe was elaborated in Berlin.
