THE HUNGARIAN CHAMBER OF RESTORERS English translation : Susanne Hinton The HUNGARIAN CHAMBER OF RESTORERS was formed in 1992 as a association representing fully qualified restorers and specialists working on the conservation of work of art. It ,s constitution specifies strict requirements for admission , and seeks to define the function of the restorer as opposed to unqualified amateurs . Within this definition it states that the final decisions about treatment lie solely with the restorer, and this responsibility should not be handed to any unauthorised person . Provided the applicant is prepared to follow the Code of Conduct established by the CHAMBER OF RESTORERS , and has proper qualifications , there will be no barrier to their name being entered on the register of members . According to the constitution , the accepted qualification is the DIPLOMA OF THE RESTAURATION INSTITUTE OF THE HUNGARIAN ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS , or an equivalent .Specialists who are engaged in the training of restorers , of those involved in connected research , are also eligible for membership . The Association has nearly 300 members who have all accepted , as their guiding principle , the respect for our cultural heritage , including the preservation of authenticity , the register of members names, and addresses , specifying their field of activity. 57
