Fa CTORS IN THE EST A BL1SHMENT OF MIXED MA RRIA GES 565 represent only 24% from the total number of marriages. These two things emphasise one more time the existence of strong ethnic and confessional compulsions in the establishment of marital strategies at the GC population in the region. The ratio on sexes of the preference_for mixed marriages: men (75%), women (25%). The District of the Archpriest of SEBIS (Boros-Sebesiensis) The small district of the archpriest of Sebis, situated in the South part of the diocese, had 4 parishes. The confessional compulsions seem not so strong in choosing the partner: 42% of the marriages are mixed marriages (at Ignesti they represent 100%). A fifth of them are inter-ethic. Many times these marriages took place outside the locality, demonstrating the great marital mobility31. The ratio on sexes of the preference for mixed marriages', men (90), women (10). The District of the Archpriest of SIMAND (Simandienssis) The parishes of the district of the archpriest of Simand were situated in a region where the confessional weight was the following: O 43.17%, RC 36.1%, GC almost 19%, HC 4%32. The great number of O makes many of the young GC look towards marriages33 with the O. The ratio on the sexes of preference for mixed marriage: men (55%), women (45%)34. The District of the Archpriest of SIRIA (Vilagosiensis) The district of the archpriest of Siria had 6 parishes and, from the point of view of ethno-confessional composition, resembled the parishes of the 31 At Bocsig, 2 GC boys married 2 HC girls from Sebis (DOSS 488/1900, f.39). At Ignesti, there are no GC registered in “Recensământul din 1900”, page 90-91. At Mimadu we used the information in the “Schemantismus”, page 171. 32 *** Schematism..., p. 179. 33 At Gurba, there are 4 marriages outside the community with O girls from Seperus and Simand. At Simand, there are two important confessional communities, O and RC, so, the GC marriages are in national line (Romanian) (DOSS 493/1907, f.33; 494/1908, f.50).
