564 Io an Horga b. the multiconfessional preurban region: Sant-Andrei and Sántául Mare where, around the binominal GC-0 formed of 9 marriages like that of Sant-Andrei, is noticed a large number of marital options (the largest in the region after Oradea). This is also obvious in the traditional ethnic and confessional structure of the locality where Romanians, Hungarians, Swabian and Slovaks lived together27. c. the multiconfessional urban region: Oradea reflects the dimensions of human mixture specific to a town. From the point of view of the structure of mixed marriages we have here 4 GC/O combinations, 2 RC/GC combinations and 1 HC/GC combination28. It becomes very obvious that the confessional identity is strongly maintained. From a total number of 57 marriages only 12.3% are mixed marriages; from them only 4 are inside the community and only 3 are open to other ethno-confessional communities that face an important mutation29 30. In comparison to the total number of marriages they represent 5%. The ratio on sexes o/lMare where the Romanian population represented less than 1/3 and was entirely of GC confession. The lack of 0 population in the region, the important presence of HC population (59%) and the less important one of RC population (5%) should have influenced the marriages in the region. In reality, things are different. In the first place, the number of parishes where mixed marriages were registered represents only lA. In the second place, the mixed marriages from the parishes of Oar311 and Pocsalma majority), 2 marriages are outside the community with partners from Toboliu and Chersig (O villages in majority) (DOSS 491/1902, f.43). At Nojorid, there are marriages outside then community with O partners from Les and Apateu (DOSS 487/1900, f.52). 27 At Sant-Andrei, the result of the marital options was a marriage of a GC man with a RC woman and a marriage of a GC man with a HC woman from Oradea (DOSS 488/1900, f.85). At Santau Mare, there is a marriage of a HC man with a GC woman. The boy was from Biharia (DOSS 488/1900, f.85). At Sant-Andrei, there are 6 GC/O marriages outside the community with partners from Apateu and Roit, Cheresig, SannicolaulRoman (O villages) (DOSS 487/1900, f.55). 28 Arh. Nationale Oradea, Fond. Ep. G-Cat.. Doss. 491/1903,/. 66; 497/1913, f. 14). 29 The depopulation of the Hungarian population in some rural localities neighbouring towns is a real fact due to their migration towards towns where the industrial activities were developing. It is the case of Sant-Andrei, Nojorid and Santau (for Oradea), of the suburban villages from Satu Mare (I. Bolovan, Contribuţii documentare privind politica demografică a Ungariei la începutul secolului al XX-lea, în AMN, 1997, nr. 34, voi. II, pp. 293-310 [293-294]. This influenced the marital strategies of the population from the suburban villages. 30 At Oar there is a marriage between a GC boy and a RC girl from Dara (DOSS 491/1904, f.74).
