Factors in the establishment of mixed marriages 563 The district of the archpriest of Madaras had 7 parishes situated at the North-North-East of Satu Mare and counted a population in majority of GC confession (56.88%). The lack of O population in this region and the relatively important presence of RC population (20.50%) and HC (19,78%) infuence the marriages in the region. Since the parishes of Piscari and Satmarel had a structure almost mono-confessional (GC), the mixed marriages are infrequent, but in the other parishes they become more frequent. In Tataresti the 3 GC/HC marriages and the 2 GC-RC marriages must have been extra-community marriages of boys from one locality with girls from the neighbouring localities of Culciu Mare or Petin (villages with HC weight) and Terebesti or Madaras (in majority catholics)24. However, not even in this parishes the mixed marriages do not overpass 'A from the total number of marriages. This fact emphasises the idea of a strong confessional and ethnic identity at the Romanian GC from Szatmar. The ratio on sexes ofpreference for mixed marriages: men (100%). The District of the Archpriest of ORADEA MARE It is the biggest district of the diocese with a complex ethno-confessional structure being an authentic sarnie on a reduced scale of what the diocese represented on the whole in 1900. This is obvious from the table bellow where from the 14 parishes 8 registered mixed marriages. That means 57.2% from the parishes. Analysing the weight of mixed marriages in the total number of marriages from the district of the archpriest of Oradea, we can notice rates under the average of the diocese in 6 parishes. Exceptions are the parishes of Giris and Santandrei where mixed marriages represent 71,1% and 85%. The complexity of this district makes the marital behaviour have a great diversity. From this point of view we can establish 3 regions where the ethnol-confessional determinism acts in a particular way: a. the biconfessional GC/O region: Bedeu, Cordau, Giris, Haieu, Nojorid, Sititeeelec. At Giris, the result of O population colonisation in the region of Beius in 1870 and 1880 for economical reasons effects now the marital behaviour. The young GC are offered the alternative of another type of marriage than their parents had, that with partners of O confession25. The marriages outside the locality are also interesting (Cordau, Girisde Cris and Nojorid)26. 24 Arh. Nationale Oradea, Fond. Ep. G-Cat.. Doss. 491/1903, f 32; 497/1913. f 11). 25 Idem, Doss. 488/1900, f. 86. 26 At Cordau, there are 2 marriages outside the community with girls from Apateu and Sauaieu (neighbouring O villages) (DOSS 497/1914, f.91). At Giris (O villages in
