Fa CTO RS IN THE ESTABLISHMENT OF MIXED MARR1A GES 561 confession had only 8458 members (6.5%) while the O represented a low minority (0.3%). In majority the population was formed of HC believers (70.4%) and RC (18.8%)15. This situation makes the GC’s marital behaviour have, besides preserving the confessional identity by marriage, an important inter-confessional and inter-community mobility as one can see from the table bellow. In the parishes of Kadad16, Silind and Verpes the percent of mixed marriages from the total number of marriages overpasses 60%. There should be underlined the fact that the number of mixed marriages outside the localities is reduced (2cases)17. The ratio on sexes ofpreference for mixed marriages: men (38.4%), women (61.6). The District of the Archpriest of LUNCA (Luncasiensis) The district of the archpriest of Lunca had 10 parishes situated around Marghita. There were only 3 parishes that performed mixed marriages in 1900. The ethnic and confessional structure in this district is very heterogeneous and influenced the marital strategies of the mixed marriages. The weight is held by marriages with RC partners (5 marriages) although on the whole of this district they represent only 16.2% of the population in comparison with the 45.4% HC (3 marriages) and 19.2% O (3 marriages)18. preference for mixed marriages: men (54.83%), women (45.17%). From the point of view of preference for inter-confessional marriages, women are open up to 66.6% and men up to 33.34%. Women’s preference reaches very high levels in the parish of Oradea, maybe due to the hope of achieving another social status, having in view the fact that they were looking for partners who could offer them that status. We should mention that this status is rather modest, most of the women married servants. The District of the Archpriest of SATMAR (Szatmariensis) The district of the archpriest of Satmar had 8 parishes situated at South- South-West of Satu- Here are some explanations for such behaviour. The first, being in the neighbourhood of Oradea, locality with urban valances, represents an attraction for some GC young men to look for another social status. Secondly, the age of the parishes here in majority created before 15 Schematism...p. 223. 16 There is a Carpatho-Russian parish at Kakad. 17 At Silindru, there is only one case of marriage outside the community (the marriage of a GC girl with a HC boy from Adoni). At Vertes, there is only one RC/GC marriage outside the community and the ethnicity (the boy is RC from beta Mare) (DOSS 487/1900, f. 19,488/1901, f.33; 491/1903, f.61). 18 іSchematism ..., p. 197.
