two towers. After this date, there is no written source on the monastery, meaning probably that it was deserted at the end of the 15th century. For more than two centuries of desolation, the reconstruction of the monastery was started by Alexander Károlyi, in 1711, settling here the Franciscan monks. The restoration of the monastery lasted for a long period of time, the first Franciscan monk arrived here only in 1719. The medieval church with two towers and three naves with apses had been slightly modified during the restoration work: a part of the medieval windows were enlarged, the main nave was vaulted in 1730, but the vault of the side naves was probably preserved in its original shape. A common roof was also built for the three naves. A new family crypt was made by the southern side of the church, instead the original one situated in front of the altar, in the central nave. The restoration of the church was completed in 1740. The earthquake of 1834 affected severely the church. The edifice was rebuilt in the romantic style, according to the plans of the architect Miklós Ybl, in 1842-1847. The medieval pillars were demolished (keeping only two original capitals), and the vaults, except those from the sanctuary apse, were replaced with a cassette ceiling. A new crypt was built, behind the altar, with cross-shaped ground plan, resembling a Early-Christian mausoleum.
