ÁRKÁD PÁSZTORY - O SCHIŢĂ BIOGRAFICĂ Ciprian-Emanuel HONCA Abstract: This article comprises a short biography of one of the most interesting personalities of the Sătmar county in the XIX-XX centuries - the basilian monk Árkád Pásztory. As the subject wasn’t studied before, for this research we used mostly epoque press articles and archive sources. The study compiled the few information about Pásztory's family and his childhood, his acceptance in the Monastic Order of Saint Basil the Great, his monachal path, the controversies in which he was involved, his arrival at the Bixad monastery, his excommunication, the acceptance of the Pope of Pásztory being a monk outside the order, about his welt and proprieties, the religious community he founded in Tur city in Oaş Land, his many trials (with his former order, the schismathic trial) and also the accusation of being a Russian spy during the First World War. Putting Pásztory 's life in the middle of the research, the study also concerned with many important events in the XIX-XX centuries such as the awakening of the national feelings of the minorities living in former Austro-Hungary, the assimilation politics of the Hungarian Government, the foundation of the Hungarian Greek-Catholic Eparchy of Hajdudorog, The Ruthenian Schismatic Trial, the peasants emigration in the United States of America, the burst of the First World War. Through this study we identified the most unknown aspects of Pásztory's life and we filled it with information discovered by our research. The research is not over yet, it continues even now, this text reflecting just parts of the current stage of our work. Árkád Pásztory a fost un călugăr greco-catolic din Ordinul Sfântul Vasile cel Mare1, o personalitate marcantă a timpului său, atipică, a cărui viaţă nu a fost lipsită de controverse. S-a născut la 17 octombrie 18442 în Lunca la Tisa, comitatul Maramureş şi a primit numele Sándor. Părinţii lui au fost János Pásztory şi Borbála Juhász. Conform unui articol de presă, tatăl a fost învăţător şi om cu stare din Maramureş, care şi-a folosit averea în scopuri naţionaliste (maghiare) în contextul izbucnirii revoltei din 1848, când s-a şi înrolat ca honvéd3.
