Kováts, Dezső: Poaceae type specimens of Herbarium Carpato-Pannonicum in Budapest II. (Calamagrostis-Sesleria)
STUDIA BOTANICA H U N G ARICA (Antea: Fragmenta Botanica) XVII. 1984 p. 61-68 Poaceae type specimens of Herbarium Carpato-Pannonicum in Budapest IL (Calamagrostis - Sesleria) By D. KOVÁTS (Received November 30, 1982) Abstract: This paper is a continuation of the discussion of the type specimens of Poaceae - from the genera of Calamagrostis , Aira , A vena ( Avenastrum ), Sesleria deposited in the Herbarium Carpato-Pannonicum of the Botanical Department, Hungarian Natural History Museum in Budapest and in addition of the types kept in Herbarium Kitaibelianum, the most valuable part of the Herbarium Carpato-Pannonicum. In this paper I continue to discuss the type specimens of Poaceae (KOVÁTS 1982), the genera of Calamagrostis , Aira , Avena ( Avenastrum ), Sesleria . according to ENGLER's system and DALLA TORRE and HARMS' (1900-1907) number. The herbaria of the Hungarian Natural History Museum (BP) are the most outstanding and complete ones in Hungary and significant even all over Europe (SZUJKO-LACZA 1973). One of the collection is the "Herbarium Carpato-Pannonicum", containing the phanerogam flora of the Carpathian Basin, Great Hungarian Plain and the Carpathians (FEKETE & KOVÁTS 1974). Part of the herbarium - among others - is the "Herbarium Kitaibelianum", which has great scientific and historical value. Here the type specimens of P. KITAIBEL, the "Hungarian Linné" are to be found (JÁVORKA 1926, 1936, 1957). Another large collection is the "Herbarium Generale", containing the phanerogam flora of the whole world. Here can be found a lot of type specimens, too, most of them described by Hungarian botanists especially from the Balkan Peninsula in the last century or at the beginning of this century, for example a lot of Sesleria types described by N. FRIVALDSZKY, S. JÁVORKA and J. ÚJHELYI. The present paper deals with the types of 22 described taxa, of these 4 are P, KITAIBEL' s types, while the others were described by J. HEUFFEL (3), F. SCHUR (9), V. BORBÁS (1), V. JANKA (1), L. SIMONKAI (1), A. WAISBECKER (1), S. JÁVORKA (1), J. ÚJHELYI (1). There are some Avena ( Avenastrum ) and Sesleria species, described by KITAIBEL in literature, which are lacking in the Herbarium Kitaibelianum in Budapest (BP) (JÁVORKA 1926, 24: 506-509; 1936, 30: 50): Avena ( Avenastrum ) carpatica Kit., A. ciliaris Kit, "adest in herb Willdenowii", A. fusca Kit. , A. rupestris Kit, "in herb. Willdenowii", A. scabra Kit. . Sesleria al bicans Kit., S. interrupta Kit. On the other hand there are 3 Avena ( Avenastrum ) taxa in KITAIBEL' s herbarium whose descriptions unfortunately have not been found until now. These species are the following: A. depau perate (mihi) Kit., A. latifolia (mihi) Kit., A. pilosa Kit. The last two species appear in KITAIBEL' s work (ed. KANITZ 1863, 32: 309-310) but without descriptions. According to DEGEN (1910) the largest part of the SCHUR Herbarium is in Paris (P) and the other parts of it (GOMBOCZ 1936) have been placed in Wienna (WU), Lwow (Lemberg LW), Stockholm (S-PA) and Japan. SCHUR has sold parts of his herbarium (DEGEN 1910, GOMBOCZ 1936)
