Tom. Vi. 1968 FOJC. 1-4 Gábor Andreénasky 's Taxonomic and Lfteiwy Works By Of. 1 Sr. Locza and Or. G. Si. Cliffery Botanical Depart ment of th* Hungarian Maturai History Museum, Budapest The first product, a doctoral thesis of the university, of GÁBOR ANDREÁN S Z KY's works in systematics and taxonomy, „Au outline of the home species and distribution of the subgenus Bugentiana Kusner, genus Gentiana L.", remained only in its manuscript form. His systematical treatments of the genera Veronica, Cystopteris, and Luzula, are of smaller importance. In the course of his study trips to Africa, commencing in 1927, ANDREÁNSZKY gained an extensive knowledge in species, concomitantly with observations which rendered the morphologically shaping effects of climatic and edaphic factors in especially in his later works. In the revision of the North African genera Piturantho s and Arlatjd a, and in the evaluation of the taxonomic features as applied in the description of the new species within these genera, the outlook mentioned above came in full force to the fore. And similarly, the same concept dominated in his paleobotanies! works, the main efforts of his life and simultaneously his not significant descriptive taxcnomic treatises. On the basis of fossils, he submitted the description of a great number of species both from the Eocene and the Miocene; however, the working up of genera also continue ( Ace r, and, with his collaborators, Quercu s ) which, beyond the external morphologio characters, have been discussed also paleoxylotomically as far as the remains made it possible.
