A Spanish Éxperience / Bases de données et information a distance. Une expérience des archives espagnoles (english 319 - français 343)

4. Session/Séance: Gonzalez, Data Bases and long distance Communcation In accordance with this plan, Spain is also moving forward with the introduction of the ISDN, in its Narrow Band version. The number of switching exchanges which form part of the new ISDN are increasing progressively. However, the extension of the service to the whole country is something which requires time and heavy economic investment. For this reason the areas of the country in which connection to the new network is possible are still very limited. However, the network will finally offer the possibility of finding one single solution to all the different communication needs. In these limited areas services such as telephone, improved quality telephone, telefax (facsimile group 2/3) datafax (Facsimile group 4, with grater speed and quality than the conventional), Videotext, video-telephony, etc. are already available in ISDN. The Spanish Telephone Company now offers two possibilities for user access:- BASIC ACCESS, with two channels of 64 Kb/s, which permits connection of up to 8 terminal units.- PRIMARY ACCESS, with 30 channels of 64 Kb/s, in digital multi-service switchboard. Until ISDN is the only telecommunications network it will be connected to the STN, to cope with traffic between the two networks, as well as to the IBERPAC network, with X-25 and X-32 adaptor terminals. 342
