On January 30 the History Department at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg presents „Hapsburg Day, ” a series of lectures about the Austro-Hungarian Empire. As part of the day-long presentations on Austria, Hungary and the Czech Republic, Dr. Alexander Csizinszky talks about Hungary' at 9:30 AM. Andrew Ewa presents two programs in the Naples Library (2385 Orange Blossom Dr.): on February 20 and 27 he will show videos that feature Hungarian cities and the countryside. Both programs start at 2:00 PM. Our February Program. You are cordially invited to an illustrated lecture (in Hungarian) by Dr. Géza Kisvarsányi, “Gold and Death in the Soviet Empire” in the Selby Public Library (1331 First Street, Sarasota) on Thursday, February 26 at 4:30 PM. Dr. Kisvarsányi is a retired (from the University of Missouri) Professor of Geology who was a prisoner in the Soviet Gulag and is the survivor of the “death camps.” He will examine how natural resources, especially rich deposits of gold, enabled the Soviet economy to survive for seven decades, and how the use of slave labor supported the political regime of terror. Dr. Kisvarsányi is a member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences abroad, the Sarasota History Club and director of the Kossuth Club since 1994. All interested persons are welcome to meet the lecturer for questions after his presentation. The Kossuth Club Board of Directors for 2004. The Annual Meeting of the Kossuth Club was held after the January program. The Nominating Committee (Zsuzsa Deák, Emery Farkas and Paul Fekete) presented 13 candidates for the 2004 Board of Directors: Júlia Borsos, Ágnes Csizinszky, Alexander Csizinszky, Éva Kisvarsányi, Géza Kisvarsányi, György Krajcsik, Ursula Nádasdy, Nóra Szonntágh, Erika Thiringer, Tamás Thíringer, Alexandra Vadász, Cathy Fenyves Vegliante and Joseph Vegliante. President protem Edith Lovas determined quorum and the Board was unanimously elected by the members. At the first Board meeting Éva Kisvarsányi moved to re-elect Alexander Csizinszky as Chairman of the Board and the motion was unanimously approved by the directors present. Éva will continue to serve as Executive Director and newsletter editor. Géza Kisvarsányi is treasurer and chair of the program committee, Alexandra Vadász is vice president/health, Ursula Nádasdy is recording secretary, Júlia Borsos is assistant treasurer, Cathy and Joe Vegliante are serving on the finance and budget committee, Erika and Tamás Thiringer, Nóra Szonntágh and Ágnes Csizinszky are on the concert committee, and György Krajcsik is director at large. We wish the new Board good work and a successful year. We thank those who helped us to conduct the meeting. 4
