Chronological Table February 3, 1890-ImreKnerwasbomatGyoma, as first child to Izidor Kner, printer and Kornélia Netter. 1899—1901 - attended the first two classes of high school at the Mezőtúr Calvinist Gymnasium. 1901- 1902 - attended the third class at Arad. Because of his father’s serious eye trouble, Imre Kner interrupted his studies to be able to substitute his father. 1902- 1904 - worked as an apprentice in his father’s printing house at Gvoma. September 1904- May 1905 - studied at the Leipzig Technikum für Buchdrucker (School for Printing Technology) of Julius Maser where, beside useful technological skills he also got acquainted with Art Nouveau style. 1905 - in the autumn he returned home and started work in the printing house. July 16,1906-LászlóNovákacceptedhisapplicationforthemem­­bership of Könyvnyomdászok Szakköre (Printers Associa­tion). Later, however, according to the decision of the lead­ership, because of “being a boss”, Imre Kner was excluded from the Association. From 1907 on - technical manager of the printing house. 1907-1909 - designed the cover of the “Röpke Lapok” a magazine of Kner’s ballroom invitations. The April 1908 issue of the Leipzig “Archiv für Buchgewerbe” criticized the artistic level of “Röpke Lapok.” Following this, Imre Kner started to find typographical solutions other than Art Nouveau. 195
