Chronological Table

1908 - designed the typographical and binding layout for the col­lected works of the writer Zoltán Thury. 1910 - organized a competition for the graphic solution of the printer’s device for the Kner Printing House. 1911 - got acquainted with Lajos Fülep who at the time lived in Florence. Fülep urged him to issue his periodical “A Szel­lem” (The Spirit) printed at Gyoma, without any decora­tion, with a typography design “of letters only”. At that time Renée Erdős was Fülep’s wife, her play “János tanít­vány” (St. John Disciple) was designed by Kner in an En­glish manner. 1912 - on the 30th anniversary of the Kner Printing House Imre Kner wrote, edited and designed a decorative publication under the title “Könyv a könyvről” (A Book on Books), in William Morris’s style. 1914 - he commissioned a competition to design a watermark for special papers, manufactured by the Diósgyőr Paper Mill for the Kner company. June 1914 - travelled to Western Europe and returned - according to his tripdiary-on hearing the news about the assassination of the heir to the throne. On his way home he visited the BÚGRA exhibition for book design and graphic art in Leipzig, about which he wrote several articles at home. July 28, 1914 - the day the Monarchy declared war. Imre Kner served in the army for several month in the first half of 1915 Békéscsaba where he made several friends with Pál Ara­ny ossi among them. 1914 - published Thomas Mann’s “Death in Venice”, translated by Viktor Lányi. It was then that he made the designs for the book of poems by the writer’s sister, Sarolta Lányi. 196
