SUMMARY In the volume entitled Studies from the History of Ruthenia, Transylvania and Upper Northern Hungary foreign historians published the results of their research dating from the Hungarian conquest to the 20 th century. They also give sources that are hardly accessible but important and interesting from the point of view of our region. Balahuri Eduard: Findings Dating from the Hungarian Conquest in Csoma (A subjective report on an excavation) The author, who is an archeologist himself, reports on the results of the excavations in Tiszacsoma. The work started in 1986. It was originated by the Hungarian Cultural Association and supported by Illyés Foundation and the Ministry of Education. The findings of about 60 graves from the era of the Hungarian conquest were found in 1996. They enrich us with new knowledge about our pastoral, farming ancestors and those who worked as craftsmen. Balogh Béla: The Regional Division of the Origin of the Studentry of the Calvinistic Lyceum in Máramarossziget from 1682 to 1850, with Special Emphasis on Szabolcs, Szatmár, Bereg and Ugocsa Counties The history of the Calvinistic ly^Uijrdate^ b^ack to the first half of the 16 th century in Máramarossziget. For overea hundred ye'ars the secondary school was characterised by lower level. It'Was turned into a school of higher education during the time of its Protestant sovereign. From the last decades of the 17 th century on Sziget provided the."primary schools with teachers in Máramaros, Ugocsa and partly Szatmár counties. In the 1830s students could learn law and theology here as well. The first registers of students date back to as early as 1862. The archivist author publishes details of these sources. Pavlenko, Grigorij: The Revolution of 1848-49 in Ruthenia The news of the revolution of March of 1848 in Pest was received with enthusiasm in Ruthenia as well and the recruiting of home - defending troops began at the beginning of that summer. The realisation of the Acts of April that were not too successful, the policy of the Hungarian Government towards the peasantry and the nationalities repugned people living here and strengthened those stressing Slavonic unity. The author, who is a professor and a historian too, also uses the curriculum vitae of István Szilvai to recall the memories of these years. István Szilvai was a student of a secondary school at that time.
