Under the reign of Joseph II, the counties were replaced with districts. Bereg county was merged with Ugocsa, and incorporated into the IVth District of Munkács. In accordance with the order no. 31979 of the Governor’s Council, dated on the 1st of August 1786, the old seals were to be submitted to the Council, and only the new seal, containing the coat-of-arms of the country and the name of the county were allowed to be used.30 In the upper half of the seal of Bereg county the coat-of-arms of the country, with the closed crown, appeared, and in its lower half the year: 1786. The circular inscription was the following: COMITATUS BEREGH. ET UGOCSA. UNITI Picture 931 - Seal of Bereg-Ugocsa county, 1786 The inscription around the rim of the Court of Bereg-Ugocsa county is the following: ’’Judicium subáit Comit. Beregien, et Ugocsien. uniti. dist. cistyb.” After the death of Emperor Joseph, the “old, constitutional” seal was brought back into use. To the inscription of the storing chest the following text was added: “Exul eram Budae, Sacrum Diadema Viennae, / Regno hoc me statibus reddidit una dies.”32 30 MNL Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg Megyei Levéltára (Sz.-Sz-B.
