Tanulmányok Szabolcs, Szatmár és Bereg megyék múltjából - Fazekas Rózsa: A nagykárolyi kastély enteriőrje egy 1846. évi inventárium tükrében

Az 1830-as évek végéig szerzeményei a nagykárolyi parkot gyarapították, később sok fa, cserje, virág innen került a pesti palota kertjébe és Csurgóra is. A 12 hektárnyi park sok növényritkasággal büszkélkedett. 1842-ben egy üvegházat is építtetett. Míg az angolpark szervesen hozzákapcsolódott a kastélyhoz, addig az 1827. évi osztálykor 81 hold 575 négyszögölre becsült szarvas- és fácánkert nem állt vele közvetlen kapcsolatban. Bár György gróf - saját bevallása szerint - nem lelkesedett túlságosan a vadászatért, amikor Nagykárolyban tartózkodott ki-kilovagolt egyedül vagy ismerős társaságában a szarvaskertbe szerencsét próbálni, tehát életmódja részét képezte ez az időtöltési forma is. A kastélyt Károlyi György fia, István Meinig Artúr tervei alapján 1894-1896 között átépíttette. Az átalakítás során a kastély külsőleg is, belsőleg is teljesen átalakult. A nagykárolyi kastély enteriőrjéről Károlyi György idejéből ábrázolások nem készültek. RÓZSA FAZEKAS: The Interior of the Castle of Nagykároly According to an Inventory of 1846 The castle of Nagykároly is situated in the ancestral center of estates owned by the Károlyi family. Its function has changed several times through centuries and this change of function has entailed the exterior and interior reconstruction of the building. György Károlyi (l 802-1877) inherited the castle in 1827 in the form his father built it between 1793 and 1795. As he permanently lived in the castle in Pest and chose Csurgó, Fejér County as his summer residence, he spent only little time in Nagykároly. He maintained the castle and he had the damage repaired after the earthquake of 1834. The whole family stayed in the castle only on one occasion. In the summer of 1845 György took his wife, Karolina Zichy with himself to show his lands in Szatmár County to her. For this reason the furniture of the rooms used by the members of the family were renewed. When creating the new interior of the castle the following principles were followed: subservience, convenience and the avoidance of waste of money. A detailed and thorough inventory of the castle's furniture was made in 1846. In our study the rooms of the castle are described based on this inventory.
