LAJOS JÓZAN: Records from the 17 th-19 th Centuries Belonging to the Reformed Church of Huszt The records of the Reformed Church of Huszt were kept in the chest of the church in the churchwarden's house. The assortment of the records began in 1784. During this procedure the topic of each document was recorded. In 1835 the records were divided into nine fascicles in which all the records were numbered. Although the documents were increasing in number, they were getting more deficient compared to what they were like earlier. István Jászai, the minister of Huszt copied the docket that was made into a writing-book so that the original version could be preserved for posterity. Jászai, coming from Abauj county, first ministered to the parish of Szatmár then the parish of Máramaros. In 1834 he was transferred from Visk to Huszt. The old record which was made of the documents of the church is published by Lajos Józan, who is the present-day minister of Huszt. Unfortunately, original documents were centrally collected when the churches of the Soviet Union were deconsecrated in 1947. Since then nothing has been known about them. The documents characterize the life of the church of Huszt in the 18 th —19 th centuries. They deal with the appointment of a minister, the case of the local school or the serfs of the church. They also include a number of contracts, notes on loans and statements. We can also find out about the office-bearers' names of the church and the recorded cases of the Reformed Church of Huszt.
