II. A magyarországi sörfőzés története

Termékkínálat, 1990-es évek Product range, 1990s „A nagykanizsai igazgató, Gömöri ]ános na­gyon jó szakember volt, nagyon barátkozó, de nagyon kemény, vele meg kellett birkózni. Amikor kineveztek Sopronban főmérnöknek, ez azt jelen­tette, hogy a vezetői gárdába kerültem bele. (Az első há­rom vezető az igazgató, a főmérnök és a főkönyvelő, na meg a párttitkár, de az nem szakmai volt, hanem poli­tikai.) Tehát kineveztek főmérnöknek, és kötelességem­nek éreztem, hogy meglátogassam a vidéki kollégákat. Elmentem Iános bátyámhoz is. Ismertük egymást, azért a kapcsolat megvolt, de főmérnök minőségben még nem találkoztunk. Fehér köpenyben fogadott bennünket, két kollégámmal mentünk, a sörfőzőmesterrel és a műszaki helyettesemmel, akik a karbantartást meg a gépek üze­meltetését végezték, felügyelték. Úgy fogadott bennün­ket, hogy szervusztok és a nagy lapát tenyerével úgy hátba vágott, hogy a tüdeje az embernek majd kiesett. "The executive director in Nagykanizsa, lános Gömöri, was an outstanding expert. He was very friendly but also tough, one had to fight hard with him. When he was appointed chief engineer in Sopron, this meant that we became part of the same executive management team. (The top three executives were the executive director, the chief engineer and the chief accountant; and of course the party secretary. The latter was not a professional position, though, but a political one.) So 1 was appointed chief engineer and I felt that it was part of my responsibilities to visit our colleagues in the rural areas. I also visited my friend Iános. We knew each other, a relationship already existed between us, but we had never met in his new capacity as chief engineer. He welcomed us in a white lab coat. We came with two colleagues, a brewery master and my technical deputy. They were responsible for the maintenance, operation and supervision of the machinery. János said hi, and with his giant hand he slapped me on my back so hard that my lung almost came out front. He sat me down and told me we were going to perform my initiation. He asked us: Kids, what will you have to drink? My colleagues got what they asked for and then he turns to me and says: You'll have what 1 have. 1 said sure, what else could 1 really say? He goes into his little kitchenette and brings out a bottle of delicious pálinka, along with two 2-decilitre glasses. He fills one for himself and one for me. And I ask: Are we starting with water? He says go on, smell it. It was a 45% pálinka. So that's what we will use to initiate you. Come hell or high water, there was no way 1 could say no to this. We clinked glasses and 1 drank the whole 2 decilitres of pálinka in one gulp. That was the last time in my life 1 ever did that. He asked me: That felt good, didn't it? It’s burning. Right? He says we will put that fire out now. He goes in to fetch two 7-decilitre bottles of 156
