ZURICH, TREICHLER LAUNDRY BOAT, UMMATQUAI, 1862 After the success of the bathing ships, the simple laundry boats that were put in land also spread. These boats were not fancy and they were built for one purpose; to clean people's clothes. Treichler, the ship architect, wanted to disprove the general belief that these laundry boats ruined the nice view of the wharves so he asked help from Gottfried Semper, the bathhouse expert. They decided to plan a simple laundry boat that was decorated with caryatids in Pompeii style. In this way they managed to build an aristocratic boat that gained appreciation even from the authorities.
