Konrádyné Gálos Magda: Képek a budapesti szállodák életéből a város-egyesítés korszakában

The Grand Hotel of Margaret Island opened its doors in 1873 near the Baths on Margaret Island. Both were built by Miklós Ybl. A bronze memorial tablet preserves the memory of János Arany who used to spend his summers under the trees of that island. The Budapest hotels met every kind of demand. Their restaurants were world famous. Every dish fashionable in Europe was on their menues in many languages. Hungarian specialities were served everywhere. The cafés turned into intellectual centres, many newspapers and journals were found in them, they became the scenes of regular discussions and many editorial staffs were established at its tables. 12« 179
