The 19th century in Europe is a period of important social, national and human conflicts and is similar to the period of the birth of the WestEuropean musical tragedy. The development of the independent nations in Europe, the waves of which overflooded the whole of Europe brought about the national opera in Eastern Europe. The first attempts at a research on the East-European opera proved that it is the reflexion of foreing tendencies. Indeed, we can find the elements of different foreign models/Wiener Singspiel, the Italian opera buffa, the opera comique of Paris and the vaudeville etc/ in Hungary,but together with these types -contemporary national types also appear, and what is even more important they are in the vernecular characterized by national tunes and dances. This mingling lasted for only 20-30 years and then the mixture came to an end. Foreign tone, and stylistic models disappeared and the national tone - a series of new intonations - proved strong enough to constitute the basis of the Russian, Hungarian, Czech etc national opera. Than the lecturer described the results of the popular trends,, the romanticism and the literary connexions of the East European opera. - 129 -
