Bevezető
Introduction The Theatre Yearbook, published each year, is a printed databank that collects and records the events of Hungarian theatre in a thorough and comprehensive fashion. Our book is mostly for practical use, as it aims to provide current and important information not only to theatre practitioners and those working in the world of theatre, but also to audiences and theatre-goers seeking a deeper study of the current state of the theatre. At the same time, we would like to believe that the Yearbook will be a valuable resource to researchers of the distant future, that at some later date it will provide a historical perspective that will be appreciated and enjoyed by all readers. Three years ago - taking into consideration the changes in theatre life - we created a new structure and significantly widened the scope of the publication. Our readers are most welcome to submit any comments or recommendations, as we hope that the Yearbook will continue to evolve and change with the theatre it documents. Our present edition contains the data from the 2004/2005 season. In our Yearbook we start with the databank of the theatres. In this chapter we list the state and municipal theatres with constant venues, and the private theatres and production companies who have a constant production schedule. Their most pertinent data (mailing address, telephone and fax numbers, website, e-mail address, and governing bodies) is included, along with: the names of the organizations that run and finance the institutions, permanent venue data (seating capacity, ticket prices), and in the case of the production companies, the venues where they perform most often is listed. Information on open-air theatres that run during the summer as well as Hungarian theatre outside Hungarian borders is organized in the same manner. After the data concerning the theatres (venues, companies), there are entry numbers about openings of the last season. In the first chapter we have added information regarding higher-education theatrical training programs as well as theatrical organisations. The second part of the Yearbook deals with detailed data regarding last season’s productions. This information is listed by the title of the performance, 9
