Foreword

TOWARDS THE READER In the preface of the precedent edition we was speaking about our endeavours of making a tradition of the initiative of the year 2004, and to serve the interests of the readers and the cause of the scientific activity of our museums with a series of volumes. This third appearance is the incontestable sign of the realization of the editor's intentions. Similarly to all the projected series for a great number of years, the preoccupation of the editors of this Year Book concentrates - besides ensuring its continuity - on the permanent rising of the level of each newly appeared volume. Of course, this fact depends equally on the authors and on the editors. We express our gratitude and thanks to the contributors of the previous volumes for the professionalism and exigency of the works that were handed to us, works that were worthy of the traditions of our predecessors, Transylvanian scientists of the past centuries. The other value criteria of a study volume consists in its thematic variety, the uniform distribution of the subjects from different scientific domains, in order to avoid the contingency and the disproportion of the book. This time we present to the readers one single volume: though numerically we are publishing almost the same number of works, their dimensions did not motivate the division into two separate volumes - this „mesalliance" between the human sciences and the nature ones imposed to the editor new compromises ( at the annotations, illustrations, bibliographies and thematic framing into sub-chapters). Yet our new task has already been given: next year we have to edit a Year Book, which through the publishing of a greater number of works, will ensure a more complete covering of the separate scientific domains, offering a more real image about the many-sided activity of the researchers from the museums and our scientific institutions.
