János SEDLMAYR THE WORK OF LÁSZLÓ GERŐ Exhibition in the Court of the National Board of Historical Monuments In the 18th of December 1994. the 85 years old László Gerő, Ybl-prize awarded architect, vice president of IB I, a mentor of the period beginning with 1957 of Hungarian protection of monuments could be present at the opening of the exhibition of his works. The exhibition was still open, when he died unexpectedly, causing a great loss, on the 18th of January, 1995. The centre of the exhibition organized by the author were the most important reconstructions, shown by photos, drawings and descriptions: the military amphitheatre in Óbuda, the choir of the City church in Budapest, the St. Mary-Magdalene church in Sopronbánfalva, the chapter hall of the Franciscan convent in Sopron, the courtyard of the Royal Palace in Visegrád, monuments by the Lake Balaton, the old forge in Miskolc-Ujmassa, Castle chapel in Siklós and weapon hall, the Royal Palace with its ceremonial hall, Chapel and cellars in Buda, and the Hungarian Chapel in Rome. Beside these another tableau was dedicated to the publication „Protection of Monuments", edited by him since 1957, for a long time the only publicity for the experts, containing important theoretical and practical studies. At the exhibition representing the works of the versatile architect his paintings and graphics were naturally also shown. Beside his curriculum vitae the most important books written by him and the list of his awards were also presented. The catalogue was edited by János Sedlmayr, Juan Cabello and members of the Architectural Department of the State Centre of Monument Protection and Restoration.
