This structure of monuments protection built in the 19th century was not suitable for 20th century needs anymore. Finally the National Committee of Historic Monuments was reorganized in 1934 as a professional inspectorate, with a few number of persons paid for their professional work. The former great number of ecclesiastical participation was not possible to be continued in this framework. But one very important person should be mentioned: Antal Lépőid, canon of Esztergom. Today, the ecclesiastical personalities of the past interested in monument protection and knowing its national importance, working for it, are unfortunately missing. The most important thing would be to help the revival of local history writing on the basis of archival research, which could assist monument protection and works of the topography of monuments.
