Előadások - Herb STOVEL: Authenticity, as it he Nara Document and as relates to the restoration of historic monuments
or realenss, or truth. Those are the real issnes, those are the real questions. There has been a second idea, which has been floating around for 5 or 10 years at least but now it again is coming to a specific focus in these discussions. How do we apply the concept of authenticity to non - monumental cultural heritage. I do not say it is easy, but it is relatively straightforward to looking at a church a style building to begin to have this kind of authenticity discussion, because it is fixed in time and you can discuss, how that building envolved and what that authenticity means. But what do you do when the cultural heritage that concerns you is something, focused on a process. The most important things about vernacular architecture is not the vernacular monument but the process, which gave birth to the monument. The same whitht the cultural landscape in fact, the same whith settlements, with historic cities. So there has increased attention been given to the question of how do we define authenticity in meaningful ways, when we are talking about a process, when we are talking about traditions, when we are talking about change in function, in use. I would not like to give answers for these questions I would like to show where the debates has moved today.
