Nováki Gyula: Őskori és középkori földvárak Magyarországon

Architecturally, the most significant estate was the so-called Wekerle Estate, built on the outskirts of Budapest and Kispest, which consisted of 650 single storey buildings, split into 2—4 flats, and 270 buildings split into 6—8 flats, and twelve 2 storey buildings split into 12 flats. Each flat had a garden. The plan of the esate rather followed the plans of the "model" estates, than the romantic appearance of English garden suburbs. The architect managed to create an atmosphere somewhere between a village and a city, and the estate has retained this atmosphere. The majority of the houses were designed by Lajos Schodits and Béla Éberling. The estates mentioned above reduced the housing shortage in the capital both qualitatively and quantitatively, creating at the same time a pleasant environment to live in, employing symbolic forms and creating a suitable to the surroundings. This is substantiated by the view of local residents — and the amount that they are prepared to spend on their maintenance. In the social housing schemes between 1909 and 1912, we find a harmony between aims and means that can still prove instructive to the modern planner.
