KÖZLEMÉNYEK - Dr. Papp-Váry Árpád: Bulla Béla szerepe a Magyar Földrajzi Társaság életében

THE ROLE OF BÉLA BULLA IN THE LIFE OF THE HUNGARIAN GEOGRAPHICAL SOCIETY by Dr. ÁrpádPapp-Váry Béla Bulla became a member of the Hungarian Geographical Society on 17 November, 1927. After World War II he actively contributed to the reorganization of the Society. Unfortunately, to a decree of the minister of the interior the activity of the Society was suspended but it operated again on the 80th anniversary of its foundation. At the reorganising meeting Béla Bulla was elected President again. He restarted the publication of the journal ’Földrajzi Közlemények’ (Geographical Review) and founded the sections on Physical Geography, Economic Geography and Didactics (since 1954 Teaching Methodology) as well as the regional sections in Szeged and Pécs (since 1954 named Regional Section for South-Transdanu- bia). In 1954 the Trans-Tisza Regional Section was organized. The Commission on Karst Research was reorganized as Section for Karst and Cave Research in 1955. Béla Bulla prepared the formation of the Section for Mountaineering, which was officially launched in 1956, ie. after Bulla’s death. He did not undertake the presidency of the Society at the 1956 elections but remained active as member of the Board, after 1959 as co-president and chair of the Section of Physical Geography.
