Cholnoky set off to Fiume on 21 June 1914 with his students and with some of the students of the pedagogical seminar in Budapest, and then from Fiume to Dalmatia. They were informed on their way about the assassination of the crown prince and his wife committed in Sarajevo. They interrupted their field trip and hastily returned to Budapest. 49. This trip considerably contributed to his research on cave formations.
