HT On the right coast of the Maros, at the top of the 252 metres high Várhegy (castle hill) situated east from the Radna, stands the ruined castle of Sólymos, which suffered serious damage in 1688, during the reoccupation from the Turks. The northern part of the inner court of the castle accommodated the palace decorated with Renaissance woodcarvings King John of Szapolya (1526-1540) and his wife, Isabel lived here. The Isabel balcony preserves the name of the Queen (in the bottom picture, on the right) . 35. The view of the large villages Lippa and Radna on opposite banks of the Maros, around 1910. MNM ELTE deposit: L 97/28 In the picture taken from the castle of Sólymos we can clearly recognize the perma­nent wooden bridge connecting Lippa on the left bank of the Maros (Ternes county) , and Máriaradna, a famous pilgrimage site in Arad county. The history of the two settle­ments was closely interwoven with the castle of Sólymos. According to the legend, a tun­nel under the Maros connected Lippa with the castle. 36.
