Not protected. Status in the Bakony: 2. Philotes vicrama (MOORE, 1865) Small-spotted Blue (Map 32, Item 102) The present taxonomic viewpoint separates P. baton and P. vicrama as two different species. In the Bakony region P. vicrama is bivoltine flying in April/early June and July/August. Numbers can fluctuate from year to year in suitable areas of dry, stoney Steppe terrain. Aberrations are extremely rare. One specimen lacking the typical blue markings (ab. dahlstroemi) was collected by the author near Márkd. Not protected. Status in the Bakony: 5. Iolana iolas (OCHSENHEIMER, 1816) Iolas Blue (Map 33, Item 103) Primarily a Mediterranean butterfly this blue Lycaenid occurs in a few isolated localities in the Balaton Highlands around Csopak and Balatonarács. It is single brooded and can be seen on the wing from the end of May until early August. Its foodplant Colutea arborescens has virtually disappeared from the wild, many bushes having been uprooted and transplanted into private gardens. No sightings of this species have been reported from the Pécsely area since 1988 and populations on Mt. Tamás, where it was relatively common on South facing slopes up until thirty years ago, have virtually been wiped out. Protected species. Status in the Bakony: 1. Maeulinea nausithous (BERGSTRASSER, 1779) Dusky Large Blue (Map 35, Item 105) In the mid 1960's this hygrophilic lycaenid had sizeable populations in many areas and could be frequently seen in suitable habitats from mid June until August. The fate of this species appears to be directly linked to the protection of its wetland biotopes many of which have been destroyed over the last 25 years and its survival, like that of L. hippothoe and L. dispar, seems to be in jeopardy. Populations from Mt. Kab, Herend and Pápa have died out in recent years while numbers from the surviving colonies at Ajka, Bakonygyepes and Balinka-Mecsérpuszta have been dramatically reduced presumably due to the depletion of its hostplant Sanguisorba officinalis. Protected species. Status in the Bakony: 2. Maeulinea teleius (BERGSTRASSER, 1779) Scarce Large Blue (Map 33, Item 106) Not as rare as the previous species but none the less threatened by habitat loss. Both M. nausithous and M. teleius share similar biotopes, hostplants and flight times but the latter has a wider ecological potency. Populations occur at Várpalota, Balinka, Bánd, Úrkút, Ajka and in many other suitable lowland areas. Protected species. Status in the Bakony: 2.
