The formation of the surveyed lakes is attributable to the mining activity. Waterfowl counting under the survey were performed biweekly during the migration/wintering period and monthly in the nesting period. Data were collected in a GIS database. During the suvey 47 waterfowl species were documented. Among the surveyed area, the conspicuous importanc of the lake receiving the purified waste water of Várpalota was demonstrated relating to the number of individuals and the diversity of waterfowl. Bevezetés A várpalotai bányatavak a régmúltban nem léteztek, kialakulásukban elsősorban a XIX. és XX. századi szénbányászat, másodsorban a terület gazdag vízellátottsága játszott és játszik ma is kiemelkedő szerepet. A tavak területe egykor szerves részét alkotta a napjainkban főként Fejér megye területéhez tartozó, különböző vizellátottságú élőhelyek sokaságát felvonultató 265
