Public service report The Communications Museum Foundation was established as of January 1, 1990, by telco Magyar Telekom, the Hungarian Postal Service, and communications transmitter Antenna Hungária. The purpose was to nurture the joint museum heritage of the three founders, to present it to the public, and to process it in a scientific manner. The Foundation was registered by the Budapest Municipal Court under Number 429. Since 1998, it has operated as a public service organization of special significance. 2007 was a landmark year. It marked the conclusion of a 17-year era, with the directors of the Postal Museum and the Stamp Museum retiring. In addition to the personnel changes, four other important events marked the life of our foundation. The Tele-Archives in Miskolc opened on May 17, 2007, making it the country’s third warehouse to offer exhibitions to museum-goers. Its collection of artefacts from telecommunications history is therefore, now open to the public. Following many years of waiting, upgrades in the lighting and fire protection systems at the Stamp Museum have been completed for all practical purposes. At the request of the Hungarian Postal Service, a sculpture in Székesfehérvár, called Rákóczi’s Courier was restored and moved to a new location. Although the Emitel Tele-Gallery in Kiskunhalas had been constructed several years ago, it did not open at that time, since the conditions for opening could not be met. It was finally opened in December as a branch of the Postal Museum. In 2007 our museums and exhibition sites received 201 685 visitors. The foundation conducted no entrepreneurial activity whatsoever, therefore it had no such income. It is independent of all political parties and conducts no political activity.
