• A school-closing ceremony was organised for the pre-schoolers and elementary school children of Hollókő. • A Christmas programme for secondary school students was held at the Radio and Television Museum for the fifth time on 15 December, in which we commemorated the work of Michael Faraday. • On 17 December an Advent playhouse was set up in the Postal Museum for pre-schoolers and elementary school children. • Oral presentations to young stamp collector and contests among them were organised in the Stamp Museum and at events in other parts of the country. • On-site classes were held for secondary school and college students in both museums. Scientific Work • Twenty-two studies were published in out 9th Foundation Yearbook that appeared in September • Our museologists wrote several of the studies published in the books marking the György Békésy centenary. • We edited the telecom-related items appearing in a publication by the Federation of Technical and Scientific Societies to mark the year 2000. • We prepared studies and collected illustrations for the CD-ROM we issued under the title of A History of Hungarian Telegraphy. • We wrote the Telecommunications section for a volume of the Hungarian Cultural Lexicon currently being prepared for publication • We designed volumes and catalogues as part of our exhibition organisation activity. • We issued an up-to-date digest of the commemorative postal cancellation stamps used to mark Pentathlon World Championships. Miscellaneous • Meetings were held with members of the MATÁV Archives committee in Pécs in May (13-14), in Sopron in June (19-30), and in Debrecen in September (20-21). • Foundation staff visited the newly reopened Museum of Technology in Vienna on 23 November. • The Foundation provided data on the three Budapest museums for a CD-ROM entitled Strolling Through Budapest’s Museums, issued by the Neumann Foundation. • The Foundation provided photos and reprints for the publications issued by the founders and for display in their public spaces, as well as museum pieces and documents for their exhibits. • We loaned exhibition materials to several museums, including two maps that were put on display at the Europalia 99 Hungária event in Brussels. • Numerous researchers worked in the libraries and document archives of both museums.
