Postai és Távközlési Múzeumi Alapítvány Évkönyve, 1994
Rövid tartalmi összefoglaló angol nyelven
Scientific activity The most significant scientific work done by the museums during the year was research required for exhibitions. One milestone was to finish collecting the materials from the years 1867-1900 for the national chronology of the branch, which is essential to historical research work. Processing of these has begun. Preparation of catalogues for the smaller collections (postage stamp designs, maps, coins, marking stamps) is nearing completion. Compilation and publication of the 1993 Yearbook made it the fourth occasion on which the Foundation was able to present such a volume to its founders and to other museum libraries. Outside researchers spent almost a thousand hours working on the museum collections. The museums provided specialist materials for several scientific and educational TV films. The Postal Museum was requested on two occasions to provide a historical summary for the television series „The Film Newsreel Tell the Story”. Education, the arts and public relations Some major events in these fields have already been reported. It is also worth mentioning that the museums and provincial exhibition areas provided guided activities for local school students. We managed to increase the number of secondary-school groups received by producing our own publicity materials. A lecture evening with Judit Havas took place at the Stamp Museum, to tie in with the exhibition there by the textile artist Erzsébet Szekeres. This proved useful to public relations, which suggests that similar events should be held in future. About twenty reports on the Foundation’s museums appeared in the media, mainly on radio and television. The Postal Museum made its first educational video film, to mark the centenary of the birth of Mihály Dénes, inventor of the Telehor, the precursor of television. The Futics Competition for the collection of historical materials by vocational secondary schools wäs cancelled. The problem was the impossibility of ensuring equal chances for participants. Mixed-speciality schools that had undergone reorganization several times would have had no chance against the schools with a long history, which have regularly issued yearbooks. This would have narrowed the number of competing schools down to only four or five. The saved prizes, however, will allow a more widely advertised competition to be held in 1995. International relations The museums were successful in their cooperation abroad as well as at home. The Stamp Museum won a grand silver medal at the Philakorea 1994 exhibition, for example, and the Postal Museum joined the advisory board of the International Telephone Card Museum. The Postal Museum provided a contributor to the conference on telegraph history in Seoul. It established relations with the Edison Archive and began to exchange items connected with Tivadar Puskás* The Foundation was represented and gave a report at the 211
