golden age of Hungarian stamps. From January 1956 until his retirement, he worked in the graphics department of the Banknote Press, devoting a lifetime to the design of stamps. His miniature compositions, accomplished with an artist’s commitment, fulfil aesthetic as well as design criteria. Stamp design requires concise presentation, disciplined composition and a sensitive use of line, which bring out in a gifted designer graphic qualities that lead to individuality of expression. Kékesi was among the best draughtsmen in his profession. His artistic commitment, talent and erudition turned all his creations into works of art. The exhibition contained a representative sample of his major work, from his first composition, a profile drawing of the newly rebuilt MABÉOSZ headquarters, to his last issued series of stamps: Hungarian Shrines to the Virgin Mary. So those who saw the exhibition saw the work of a lifetime. The work of a great artist could be followed through all its stages, with all the challenges, joys, successes and searches it entailed for him. His work forms a complete and unified whole that presents to us the world and man in it, as he, the creative artist László Kékesi, saw them.
