SOCIAL AND GENERAL The Canadian Pacific liner Empress of Canada, which sailed from Van­couver last Saturday, is expected to arrive in Yokohama via Victoria and Honolulu on Saturday, December 26. The liner Empress of Japan is due at Kobe at 8 o’clock this morning and will sail for Victoria and Vancouver, via Yokohama, at 4 o’clock this after­noon. Professor Robert Poliak, head of the violin department of the Tokyo Aca­demy of Music, and Mr. Maxim Scha- piro, Russian pianist, will play for the members and friends of the Yokohama International Women’s Club on Friday evening at 9 o’clock in the Hotel New Grand. Mr. Paul Rosenstand, Danish pianist, will assist as accompanist to Mr. Poliak. The program will com­prise the A major Sonata for violin and piano by Cesar Franck; the An­dante Spinato and Polonaise Brilliante for the piano, by Chopin, and a group of violin selections. Arrangements for the concert have been made by Mrs. R. Boiler, chairman of the' music com­mittee. A carol service will be held next Sunday evening in St. Andrew’s Church, Shiba, starting at 5:30 o’clock. The service will consist of evensong, and the carols will be sung after the third collect. This preparation for the Christmas festival is open- to the com­munity.
