100 SZABOLCS ANZELM SZUROMI, OPraem. dau (f2019) [Munich, 1999]4 with particular regard to the Decretum Gratiani (about 1140) and to its critical edition by Emil Albert Friedberg (f 1910).5 Due to the fundamental influence of the ecclesiological writings of the patristic authors, a systematic and comparative content analysis of the ecclesiological essentials of the works of St. Jerome - as well as of the other important church fathers - and the processing of the role of the individual canon law collections, compiled in a universal nature, developing the essential ecclesiological char­acter of the ecclesiological image of the church, was carried out basically from 2001, by the author of the present lines (i.e. Decretales Pseudo-Isidorianae, Decretum Burchardi Wormatiensis, Collectio in 74 titulos digesta, Collectio canonum cardinalis Deusdedit, Collectio Anselmi Lucensis, the textual fami­lies of Ivo of Chartres’ Decretum, Panormia and Tripartita, and the Decretum Gratiani).6 I. The Patristic Literature as the Fundamental Source of the Ecclesiological Contents of the Collections of Ecclesiastical Discipline It can already be observed in the Apostolic Age that authority within the Church is traced back to the apostles chosen by Christ, whom - and their suc­cessors - Jesus gave the power of governance (Mt 28:18-20).
