Veritatis gaudium lists in the Preface those social and cultural changes, moreover those several normative documents of the Holy See which have been issued since 1979 when the Sapientia Christiana was introduced for the ecclesiastical universities and faculties.15 Following the traditional structure, the new apostolic constitution deals firstly with the common norms of the sacred sciences (Arts. 1-67)16, then defines the special norms concerning the concrete faculties (Arts. 68-87).17 Supplying the mentioned regulations, we can find the so-called ‘final norms’ (Arts. 88-94)18; the preface to the Sapientia Christiana (1979)19 20, and the Ordinationes to the Veritatis gaudium.10 This last one - composed by the Congregation for Catholic Education, approved by Pope Francis on December 27th 2017 - contains the detailed instructions for the application of the apostolic constitution.21

After a circumspect analysis of the document’s Preface, also the entire contents, as compared with the earlier - 1979 - constitution, we can clearly see the very close correlation between the two documents. It supports sufficiently, that this new legislation was caused basically by the almost four-decades long experience, the promulgated new modifications to the Sapentia Christiana during that period, moreover the erected new institutes.22 23 It is particularly true regarding the renewal of the canon law instruction on September 2nd 2002 by the Decree Novo Codice Iuris Canonici23 but also the foundation of Holy
